At 80, Kathleen is determined to finally confront the ghosts of her past while taking the trip of a lifetime. Years ago, Kathleen was the star of a long-running television series about glamorous holidays, but her frequent absences left her daughter, Liza, feeling abandoned. Liza has buried her issues by taking care of others but hasn't done much to take care of herself. Martha--unemployed, broken-hearted, and a reluctant driver--answers Kathleen's ad for a chauffeur, seeing the summer road trip as an escape from her quarter-life crisis back home in England. As Martha and Kathleen set out to get their kicks on Route 66 in a cherry red Mustang convertible, picking up a sexy hitchhiker and enjoying cocktails after a long drive, Liza retreats to Kathleen's home on the Cornish coast, leaving her husband and twin teenage daughters to manage on their own. Skillfully capturing three very different women at pivotal points in their lives as they each take turns narrating, Morgan's latest, possibly her best yet, is the ultimate road-trippin' beach read and just what we all need after the long lockdown.
